Ottery Help Scheme is a registered charity providing a variety of support services to all those who live in Ottery St Mary and its surrounding areas. Our aim is to unite and mobilise the goodwill of our community, offering support to local residents where it is needed most in times of illness, difficulty or life-changing circumstance. Take a look at out website and get in touch if you would like our help, would like to volunteer for us, or would like to donate to our charity. We are always happy to take your call.

Memory Cafe – For people with memory problems we run a Memory Cafe at the Cricket Club in Ottery St Mary – contact Jane Ross or Emily Lezzeri
The Memory Café takes place on the fourth Thursday of each month at The Cricket Club in Ottery St Mary between 2-4pm.
Community Car Scheme – transport by volunteer drivers for those in need
Sitting for Carers – Being a Carer is often a very time consuming and difficult role, both emotionally and physically. That is why we offer a service aimed at giving Carers a little time to themselves – whether it may be to go shopping, read a book, or attend that special social occasion. Our Home Support Assistants are able to sit with (or take out for a walk, drive or visit) those who need care. The service often benefits both the Carer and the patient, giving the Carer a much needed break, and the patient someone new to talk to/be with.
Minibus Hire – A 14 seater minibus specially adapted to be able to carry a wheelchair and has a tail lift for ease of access. The minibus is available to those who are: vulnerable, disabled, in ill-health, clients or volunteers of Ottery Help Scheme, not-for-profit organisations with their own Section 19 Minibus Permit (Such organisations may use their own drivers if they meet required criteria)
Befriending Services – We run a befriending service to help those who are looking for company and companionship.
Wheelchair Hire – We have a selection of wheelchairs for hire and can cater for both children and adults.
Bereavment Support – The loss of a loved one is a very difficult and upsetting event and can very often leave people feeling alone and confused.
Nail Cutting – Our nail cutting clinic runs every Friday morning at Ottery St Mary Hospital.
Home Support Services – Our Home Support Services are designed to help you, if and when, you should require additional support.
Help Scheme Surgery Meeting – on the last Wednesday of every month from 9 – 10.30 at the Coleridge Med Centre. It is an information session on the services that the Help Scheme delivers as well as the volunteering opportunities that we can offer.
Seated Exercise Classes – Every Friday at The Station, Ottery St Mary, EX11 1AH,  10.30 – 12, £4 per session including refreshments, drop-in, no need to book. Starting 28th September

Ottery Help Scheme has had a busy start to 2019 and is pleased to be involved with two new projects: a sitting for carers pilot project and the setting up of a Dementia Action Alliance for Ottery District. As part of the Dementia Action Alliance we will be delivering ‘roaming’ memory cafes – taking this service out into several of our local villages to enable people living in rural areas to more easily access this type of support.

We continue to run our community transport service (completing on average 800 journeys to medical appointments per month) as well as our Memory Café in Ottery, Friendship group, befriending and bereavement support, nail cutting service, swimming group and seated exercise class. All of this keeps our staff and volunteers very busy!

If you would like more information about our services, or would like to volunteer with us, please contact the office on 01404 813041
